WHO WE ARE
We are a nonprofit orchid society located in Fayetteville, North Carolina. The purpose of the society is to promote the advancement of knowledge and appreciation of orchids. We welcome all those who are interested in orchids in particular, but also anyone who appreciates flowers of all types. Come and see what we have to show you!
WHERE WE MEET
The Sandhills Orchid Society Meets in Fayetteville, NC at the MacPherson Presbyterian Church. The Church is located at 3525 Cliffdale Rd. (At the intersection with McPherson Church Rd.) Meetings start at 7 PM, the Tuesday after the second Monday of each month. Come about 6:30 to meet everyone, enjoy the show table and to get the first choice of the sale Plants.

We meet in the fellowship hall in the back of the church so drive around back. Please do not park along the cemetery side of the lane.

Our Annual Orchid Auction will be held very different this year. It will be held as part of our Christmas party during our December meeting. We hope to get more members involved and give them a great opportunity to by great plants at bargain prices.

This years Growers Day will be held on October 31st 2009! This es an excellent opportunity to learn to grow and bloom your orchids. This is primarily aimed at the beginner grower, but experenced growers find it educational also. To check it out
The Sandhills Orchid Society Greenhouse Tour for 2007 was held Saturday May 5th. The tour included tours of 3 member greenhouses in the Fayetteville area. Lunch was be served at Keith Clayton's greenhouse. The tour was started at Eliot's house at 9:30 and continued to Joyce and Keith's greenhouses. For pictures of this years tour

SOUTHERN PINES — John William Olley “Jack” Webster died Friday, Aug. 8, 2008, in FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.
Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, son of the late William and Dorothy Webster, Jack spent his early childhood in Aberdeen, Scotland, returning to Argentina upon his father’s posting to a bank position in Buenos Aires. After attending the Universidad de Buenos Aires and serving two years in the Argentine army, Jack briefly worked for Ford Motor Co. before joining J. Walter Thompson (JWT), the international advertising agency.
At age 23, he was appointed JWT’s manager to Santiago, Chile. Jack spent the next, often turbulent, 30 years in South America, mainly in Argentina, Chile and Peru. He opened and/or managed offices in Chile, Venezuela, Peru, Ecuador, Bolivia, Paraguay, Uruguay and Argentina, closing his career as a board member and executive vice president of JWT Worldwide with responsibility for the company’s offices in the southern cone of South America.
Jack was an accomplished carpenter, making much of the furniture in his home today, but his real passion was the growing and care of his large orchid collection. He was a board member and longtime president of the Triangle and Sandhills Orchid Societies, as well as being an active member of the Triad and Cape Fear Orchid Societies. He organized innumerable orchid shows and traveled extensively, representing his societies at orchid events throughout the U.S. and around the world. He was also a member of the Kiwanis Club of the Sandhills and the Weymouth Center for the Arts.
Jack met and married his wife, Jean, in Santiago. He is survived by Jean; their sons, John, Colin, Neil and Mark; their grandchildren, Veronica, Cristina, Nicholas, Christopher, Alexandra, Ian, Jonathan and Alan; their daughters-in-law, Emiliana and Alejandra; and Mark’s companion, Kim, and her two sons, Jonathan and Michael.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 15, 2008, in Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Southern Pines, and all friends are invited to join the Websters at their home at 220 S. Valley Road in Southern Pines following the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Weymouth Center for the Arts, 555 E. Connecticut Ave., Southern Pines, NC 28388; or to the charity of one’s choice.
